Most tradies know they probably should be doing something online. Not many enjoy it. Even fewer feel like they have time for it. So they post every now and then, get a few likes, and wonder if any of it actually does anything.
It can. But only if you’re putting out the right stuff.
Here’s what we see working for trades businesses, and what tends to be a waste of time.
What works
Before and after. This is the most effective thing a trades business can post, by a long way. It’s visual, it’s real, and it directly answers what every potential customer is thinking: can you actually do the work? A short video or a simple photo showing a job from start to finish will beat a polished graphic every time.
The person behind the business. People hire people, not logos. A quick video of the owner talking about why they do what they do, or what makes them different, builds trust faster than any ad. It doesn’t need to be professionally produced. It just needs to be genuine.
Answering common questions. What do your customers ask you every single time? Answer them on camera. Fence height rules. What to look for in a quote. How long a job takes. This kind of content shows you know your stuff before someone’s even called you.
Work in progress. A quick clip of a job underway, a time-lapse, or a problem being solved is easy to make and tends to do well. People are curious about how things get done.
What doesn’t work
Stock photos. Generic graphics with your logo on them. Posts that have nothing to do with your actual work. If it doesn’t show what you do or who you are, it probably isn’t doing much for you.
The simple version
You don’t need loads of content. You need the right content. A few genuine posts a month showing real work and real people will do more for your business than posting every day about nothing much.
